Yesterday I went on a long pirating trip. No doubt it was more then 40 jumps through low-sec areas finding targets. Im was experimenting with a cruiser setup I really like and to get the feel for it I fitted two stabs on it, to not loose it and having to spend time buying and refitting all mods. I would like to add that no other mods really "fitted" in those slots. I had the cap I need and I had practically no power grid left.
During the night I attacked several ships, outlaws, T2 frigs, cruisers, BCs, miners and ratters. All in all a very nice ship, sadly I only got one kill. Im was not the only one fitting stabs that night and alot of ppl seemed to have friends around. On one occation I attacked a BC in a belt, everything went fine, I popped his drones and started working on his armor. Then 4 of his friends jumps into local. I try to finish him off but my dps is to low, I couldnt kill him in time, one of his friends warps to belt in a sacrilage, starts to shoot and scram. I warp out. After 15min waiting at safespots and watching some smack in local I decide to leave. There are two gates and there are now 5 of them in local. Mostly in T2 cruisers. I scan a gate empty!, nice. I warp there but just as I arrive two of them warp to the gate. I hit my mwd and just barely make it out.
Later I engage a outlaw in a claw next to a gate. Everything is turning out ok but again my dps is to low (gotta work on my skills), he deaggros and jumps out. Other side of gate he is waiting for me and this time he gets the upperhand, I thanked my stabs as I warped away.
A bit later on talking to someone in corp I stopped next to a gate. An outlaw in a ishkur jumps in. Not wanting the ishkur pilot to make the same escape as the wolf pilot I decide to warp to a belt to lure him there. He follows me and the fight is on. Once again my dps is crap and I realize this isnt a setup vs users with drones. After popping one if his drones Im almost down to structure I warp out. Smack again, about my stabs ofc.
Later I managed to get popped by sentries when I was gonna duel a guy and was a bit to tired to understand that he hadnt aggrod me yet :D
The guy in the ishkur is reason Im starting this thread, he got me to think about "pirating".
Heres the "intresting" part.
When it comes to pirating in EvE what aspects are (most) important in you opinion? heres what comes into my mind To be honorable? Always have fair fights? Maximizing profit? Having the most fun as possible? Generating a sence of threat to ppl in belts?
I myself always honor my ransoms, I would never dishonor a 1v1. I know how frustrating it is to have ppl stab out. And I can agree that Im in a way "dishonorable" because Im fitting stabs. But on the other hand fitting stabs.. * It saves me lots of time not having to gather all my modules again and get a new ship. * I can easely engage in fights I wouldnt otherwise testing my ship out. Increasing my experience and getting more intresting fights then the "I know Im gonna kill him belt gank" * It brings the most profit because I suffer less losses. * It brings the most fun because I dont have to fly around in a pod - shuttle - ship gathering new mods.
I thought "pirating" (and yes heres someone once again trying to define this word) was about making isk by living on other players. Generating fear in the carebears. Not flying about looking for fair fights and honor them to the death.
I mean would a real 0000-1800th century pirates engage a combat ship fairly superior to theirs or would they run? What targets would such a pirate be looking for? Well targets they know they can make a profit on.
Is it just me or is the word pirating /= honorable? Is there a "pirates of the carribiean pirating code" you have to honor in EvE in order to be called pirate?
He long post was just very boored during DT
